Radimal & Instinct Integration Guide

Instinct is a practice management system that Radimal connects with in order to retrieve patient information and upload radiology reports.

Written by Oliver Plunkett

Integration Overview

Radimal picks up the images, requests the consultation with the patient's history, gets the study to a Radimal specialist, and delivers the report back into Instinct.

With the Radimal integration connected to Instinct, you can:

  • Order Radimal specialist consultations directly from Instinct, with Radimal handling the request for you

  • Import patient details and clinical notes from Instinct when creating a case in the Radimal Dashboard

  • Eliminate manual copy and paste when submitting imaging studies

  • Automatically upload finalized radiology reports from Radimal into Instinct

  • Ensure imaging reports are consistently attached to the correct patient record

Before You Start

To enable this integration, you’ll need:

  • An active Radimal account

  • Your Instinct API Public Key and API Private Key. You can get these from Instinct

  • The Radimal team completes the Instinct ordering setup for your clinic, usually before your first order.

Getting started in the Radimal Dashboard

1. Open the Menu and click Settings, then Integrations

2. Click the "Instinct" tab

3. Click the "+" button (or "Add First Configuration" if this is your first setup)

4. Enter your API Public Key and API Private Key, then click Save

5. Radimal checks the connection automatically as soon as you save and shows you whether it's working.

6. Click "Save" to activate the integration

Testing Your Connection

Radimal tests the connection automatically every time you save your credentials. You can also run the check yourself at any time with Test Connection in the three-dot menu

Ordering Imaging from Instinct

7. In the patient's visit, open Tx Sheet, type "xray" and pick your X-ray product (for example, XRAY STANDARD)

8. Click Order

9. The X-ray shows under Upcoming Treatments, and the order is sent to Radimal

10. In the Radimal Dashboard, the patient shows up right away as Ready for imaging… via Instinct. The ID under the patient's name is their Instinct patient ID.

11. Take the images, entering the patient's Instinct patient ID as the Patient ID on your imaging device

12. When the images arrive, Radimal attaches them to the order and requests the consultation automatically, using the patient details and clinical notes from Instinct. The study goes straight to a Radimal specialist, and you can follow its progress in the Radimal Dashboard at any time.

Manual Order Matching: Link Any Study to an Instinct Order

Images taken without the Instinct patient ID, or for a different type of imaging than ordered, don't get lost. They show up as a separate case and the order keeps waiting for you. Smart Order Matching links them in a few clicks, and Radimal highlights the most likely match for you:

13. On the Ready for imaging row, open the three-dot menu and choose Match to a case

14. Search by patient name or ID, then pick the case with the images

15. Click Yes, match. The images move to the ordered patient. This can't be undone.

16. Radimal requests the consultation for you

How the Radimal & Instinct Integration Works

  • When you request a consultation in Radimal, Radimal looks up the patient in Instinct using the Patient ID on the images and pulls in their details and recent medical history. If no match is found, you can search by Instinct patient ID.

  • Patient information (name, species, breed, sex, recent visit details) will appear instantly in the case details and history, ready for you to submit to the specialist.

  • For consultations ordered from Instinct, Radimal adds a link to view the images to the order as soon as they arrive, so your team can open the study straight from Instinct.

  • The specialist reviews the images and history, then creates the report.

  • When the report is finalized, it uploads to Instinct automatically as Radiology Report - Radimal.pdf under the visit's Visit Documents section. No notification is sent.

    • Ordered from Instinct: the report goes to the visit the X-ray was ordered on, and it's also attached to the X-ray order

    • Requested in Radimal: the report goes to the patient's most recent visit in Instinct

Troubleshooting

  • Order stuck on "Ready for imaging": check that the Instinct patient ID was used as the Patient ID, or link the images with Manual Order Matching (Match to a case).

  • Test Connection fails: re-check the keys from Instinct, or contact Radimal support.
